Corvallis Museum wins back-to-back AIA Honor Awards
Nov 20, 2021
We are thrilled to share that the Benton County Historical Society, Corvallis Museum was awarded the 2021 AIA Northwest & Pacific Region Honor Award in October, and one month later, it received a second Honor Award from AIA Oregon.
During the Regional awards ceremony, jury members commented, "It’s a delightful project to see in the series of submissions...it really is a highly complex geometry that loses that complexity the moment you are inside the building, the building becomes quite clear in how it’s organized and in how it redistributes its exhibition spaces. It becomes this multifaceted gift to the street, where one can cover themselves from the rain, sit beneath the canopy but also enjoy this exquisite composition of volumes and light.”
Commenting on the Oregon Architecture Awards recipients, local author Brian Libby wrote "The Benton County Museum is an exceptional little jewel that fits well into its context of downtown Corvallis near a succession of historic buildings...I was delighted by everything from its Japanese ceramic tile exterior cladding to its light-filled gallery spaces to its endearingly eclectic collection."
