Case Work: Allied Works’ first major exhibition
Jan 19, 2016
Allied Works is pleased to announce the launch of our first major exhibition, Case Work, which will premier at the Denver Art Museum in August 2015.
Case Work will feature a cross-section of concept drawings and models that have played a crucial role in the expression, development and evolution of the firm’s work. Each artifact is a crystallization of an idea, and equally, the embodiment of a physical quality and experience that we aspire to create through our architecture.
The drawings and models in the show —forged of diverse matter such as reclaimed timbers, porcelain, resin, glass, lead, steel—explore the dialogue between material, technique and intention that lies at the heart of architectural practice. Seen together for the first time, these artifacts will provide insight into the essence of the buildings they helped to envision and highlight the intrinsic craft and quality of the artifacts themselves.
Allied Works is also designing a series of custom-built cases for the show, which will serve not only as display armatures, but moreover, as a conceptual work that investigates and expands upon the process of making.
Case Work will also travel to venues in Portland, New York, and internationally. An accompanying catalogue will be published by New York-based publisher D.A.P.
