Gabriel Smith joins Allied Works as Principal

Nov 4, 2021

It is with great pleasure that we extend a warm welcome to our newest Principal: Gabriel Smith, FAIA, LEED AP.

Gabriel’s experience at prestigious architecture firms, designing experimental furniture and teaching merges seamlessly with Allied Works’ ethos of curiosity, and dedication to hands-on craft. The partnership feels serendipitous: a natural evolution from his successful tenure as Director at Thomas Phifer & Partners. Gabriel’s perspective and practice both reflect and amplify our foundational principle that beautiful, meaningful work is a collective endeavor. As the leader of our New York team, he will head up complex projects for arts, education, commercial and government clients. Gabriel also brings extensive experience integrating sustainable design and architecture including net zero carbon and LEED Platinum projects.

A New Orleans native, Gabriel attended Tulane University and the Graduate School of Design at Harvard. He has served as adjunct professor, visiting critic or lecturer at Columbia, Parsons, Harvard, Syracuse, Tulane, and Cornell. His professional projects have earned 20 American Institute of Architects Design Awards, and he was elected to the AIA College of Fellows for his contributions as a designer.
