Palmer Museum of Art – Opening Soon
View projectDec 21, 2023
The Palmer Museum of Art at Penn State University will celebrate its debut on June 1st, 2024 with a host of public activities. Nestled beside a lush Arboretum and Botanical Garden, the museum is organized as interlocking pavilions set within the flows of the greater landscape, and clad inside and out with regional sandstone.
The new 73,000 square-foot building puts more of the Palmer’s large collection on view for the first time and dramatically boosts the museum’s capacity to advance scholarship, stewardship, and community connection.
The pavilions present American, European, African and postwar modern and contemporary art; ancient to modern ceramics; and contemporary studio glass, plus five galleries devoted to special exhibitions as well as new educational and event spaces, a museum store and café. The grounds feature a sculpture path and outdoor terraces with landscape design by Reed Hilderbrand.
Visitors will experience the landscape while strolling the galleries, and take in the collection while meandering the gardens. Noted as one of Arch Daily’s 21 most anticipated projects in 2024, the Palmer will be an exceptional, rich, and surprising journey.
