Seattle Art Museum "Mirror" Unveiling
Mar 20, 2013
On March 24th, the Seattle Art Museum will unveil a new permanent installation by the artist Doug Aitken at their flagship location on First Avenue. Entitled 'Mirror', the piece gathers diverse images and video footage from around Seattle and the Pacific Northwest, and presents it in a visual display integrated with the architecture of SAM's downtown expansion. Clad in glass and stainless steel, the 300,000 sf, 16-story building was completed by Allied Works in 2007. Once inside the museum, carefully choreographed views reconnect SAM to the surrounding landscape and the fabric of the city.
The realization of 'Mirror' marks the third and most public collaboration between Allied Works and Doug Aitken Workshop. Other projects include the Dutchess County Residence Main House in the Hudson River Valley and the NYC Loft in Tribeca.
