Caldera is a non-profit organization that brings innovative arts programming to students and communities in Portland and Central Oregon. The foundation also sponsors an artists-in-residence program that brings emerging creative voices to the region. Since 1998, Allied Works has partnered with Caldera to develop a comprehensive masterplan and create facilities that support Caldera’s mission and programs.
As part of this mission, Caldera operates a year-round center for the arts and environmental interpretation on Blue Lake in the Cascade Range. The center occupies a 90+ acre site that encompasses a diversity of landscapes, including lakeshore, meadow and pine forest. Caldera runs a summer camp at the center that houses several hundred students for extended stays. Throughout the year, the center is the focus of the residency program, offering private accommodations, studios and support to visiting artists. It also serves as an important cultural resource and event space for the nearby communities of Sisters and Bend.
Among the projects that Allied Works have executed at Caldera are a 23,000 s.f. Hearth Building, four renovated A-frame residences, a new private residence/retreat, free-standing kitchen, bathhouse, maintenance and storage facilities and upgraded dormitories from a recently acquired property.
