In 2023, Allied Works was invited by Adre—a mission-driven real estate development firm—to join a visionary collaboration with Prismid, a nonprofit co-founded by Mick Rose and Grammy Award-winning bassist, composer, vocalist, and educator esperanza spalding. Prismid Sanctuary offers free, artist-led programming created specifically for Black, Indigenous, and other artists and cultural workers of color.

The project involves the expansion and redevelopment of an existing site in Portland’s St. Johns neighborhood. Once completed, Prismid Sanctuary will be the first net-zero, Black- and Indigenous-designed and owned facility in the Pacific Northwest.

The new campus will include artist-in-residence dwellings for visiting local artists, a multi-use community hub for salons, classes, shared meals, performances, and public gatherings, and a regenerative garden to support a community-based agriculture initiative offering free organic produce to local residents.

This effort is a true collaboration between Allied Works, Adre, the Prismid community, Green Hammer (a net-zero builder), and a landscape architecture team led by community land stewards. The work is rooted in community-centered design-making to ensure that the project reflects the shared wisdom and expertise of the Prismid community. Construction is scheduled to begin in January 2026, with a projected opening in Spring 2027.
