Following the completion of their new Tasting Room and Visitor Center, which opened in 2013, Allied Works and Sokol Blosser Winery embarked on a new collaboration: the design of a limited release of their finest 2012 Pinot Noir, available only to club members of their 100-acre estate and vineyards in Oregon’s Dundee Hills.
The inspiration for the bottle’s design came from conversations with the Sokol Blosser family, and from our working knowledge of the land itself. As the wine was made with fruit from the four top blocks on the estate, we wanted to pay respect to this unique provenance with something direct, textured and elemental. We began by looking at the contours of the bottle and the deep color of the wine through the glass, searching for an ideal proportion and balance. The weight and finish of the paper stock, the color and saturation of the ink, the shape and spacing of each letter – each element combines to create a package refined to the essentials, hand-numbered and sealed in wax.
