The Vero Beach Museum of Art is currently undergoing a transformative expansion and renovation of its campus, marking the institution’s most significant upgrade in its history. The project, led by Allied Works, will dramatically increase the Museum’s ability to serve its community through exhibitions, education programs, and community events—inviting residents and visitors alike to engage with art in new and lasting ways.
Drawing inspiration from the unique coastal landscape of Florida’s Treasure Coast, the design reimagines the Museum as a series of earth terraces and walled gardens lifted above the Indian River. Studios, galleries, and a new café are carefully interwoven, encouraging a sense of wonder, discovery, and return.
The architecture is deeply rooted in its setting. Walls embedded with local sand and shells, warm colors, and light-filtering layers create a material character that belongs uniquely to Vero Beach. Together, these spaces broaden the Museum’s reach—providing new opportunities to present its growing collection, host world-class exhibitions, and offer speakers and performances for audiences of all ages.
With “many front doors,” the Museum becomes a civic gathering place, welcoming the community to participate in its diverse programs. Gardens, terraces, galleries, and courtyards create an immersive world of art—an open, inviting public realm that blurs the boundary between museum and park, art and everyday life.
