In September, Allied Works' design for the National Music Centre of Canada was honored as a shortlisted project for the World Architecture News Awards for Civic Buildings. The project was one of three selected in the Future Buildings category, and was cited both for its expressive architecture that resonates with the NMC's program as well as its relationship with the King Edward Hotel.

The Jury's comments included praise from architects Cara Lee and Paul Sandilands:

The ‘complex but finely formed’ National Music Centre in Canada straddles two roads linked by a pedestrian bridge. Its street presence captured the interest of Sandilands whilst Lee felt that it successfully ‘materialised the immaterial’ concept of music. The development includes the restoration of the historic King Edward Hotel. This idea of preservation resonated positively with the panel, who saw the importance of a ‘sympathetic relationship’ between the existing and new to ‘enforce each other’s strengths’ (Lee).

Construction on the National Music Centre is progressing beautifully and the project is expected to open in the Spring of 2016.
