Brad Cloepfil
Principal, Founder

Brad Cloepfil is the founder and creative leader of Allied Works. His body of work is informed by his native Oregon landscapes, a deep sense of place, and love of craft, making, and tectonics. Brad’s architecture pairs an intense focus on the specific character of each project with an understanding of the transformative possibilities of space, light, form and material. His firm has received numerous design awards, and he is a National Academy of Design Academician and a 2018 American Academy of Arts and Letters Award winner. He has lectured and taught widely throughout Europe, Asia, and North America.
Chelsea Grassinger
Principal
AIA, LEED AP
Chelsea Grassinger has 27 years of professional experience and has been with Allied Works for more than 20 years. She is a native of southern Arizona and spent her formative years learning the craft of building in Tucson. Chelsea has worked on many of the firm’s major academic, civic and museum projects, collaborating closely with clients and consultants to translate ideas and aspirations into built form. She has significant experience executing ambitious cultural projects, weaving the multiple interests of her clients and community stakeholders into iconic, enduring landmarks.
Brent Linden
Principal

Brent Linden is a Principal at Allied Works and has led the firm’s design teams for cultural institutions, arts education facilities, and creative agency work spaces for more than 15 years. He is instrumental in leading efforts for the firm’s major competition entries and as an active educator, has been a critic and lecturer at the University of Oregon, Cornell University, the University of Texas, and the University of Florida, among other institutions.
Kyle Lommen
Principal
Kyle Lommen is a Principal at Allied Works with over 25 years of experience designing, managing, and directing projects nationally and internationally. His expertise as principal in charge of many of the firms’ most significant projects has yielded a body of enduring, iconic buildings. He finds innovative ways to execute a project’s vision with any challenge he receives—from urban brownfield sites, to historic landmarks, to abandoned buildings, and is a strong collaborator with clients, partners, and trades. Kyle is currently overseeing the firm’s overseas embassy design work with the U.S. State Department.
Gabriel Smith
Principal

Gabriel Smith is a Principal at Allied Works and oversees the firm’s New York City office. He has more than 25 years of experience leading complex projects in the public realm for arts, education, commercial, and government clients, with special expertise in integrated sustainable design and resilience, including several net-zero and LEED Platinum projects. Prior to joining Allied Works, Gabe was a director at Thomas Phifer and Partners and an Associate at Eskew Dumez Ripple. He has taught at Columbia, Parsons, Harvard, and Cornell, among other institutions.

Thea von Geldern

Thea von Geldern is a Principal at Allied Works and has been with the firm for nearly 20 years, completing major works of diverse scale, purpose, and character nationally and overseas. She has significant experience working with top-tier creative clients, including Fast Retailing, Nike, and Pixar Animation Studios, bringing her human-centered worldview to create projects that prioritize people and place. Thea is deeply committed to community based design, leads Allied Works’ JEDI initiatives, and is active in the National Organization of Minority Architects’ Portland Chapter.
Nathan Hamilton

Nathan Hamilton has been with Allied Works for more than 15 years, serving as the project architect for major works in North America and overseas. He has a depth of experience with diverse building types, material systems, and sustainable design strategies and is a leader and mentor for the firm. His detailing acumen, technical knowledge, and expert on-site construction supervision have been instrumental to the execution of numerous distinctive arts, civic, and workspace projects.
Dan Koch

Dan Koch has been with Allied Works for more than 25 years. He is a master detailer and craftsman with a breadth of experience as a project architect for many of Allied Works’ most technically complex projects, and a mentor for the firm. He bridges disciplines to execute projects of diverse character and great technical ambition. His approach is defined by exceptional communication and collaboration with designers, consultants, and builders to deliver thoughtfully executed and enduring works of architecture.
Rachel Massey
Associate Principal
Rachel Massey has more than 20 years of experience as an interior designer, and plays an integral role in design visioning for the firm’s projects nationally and overseas. She has led major residential, commercial, and hospitality projects, applying special expertise in design narratives, programming, materials, lighting, and furnishings. As the Director of Interior design for the firm, Rachel engages deeply with clients and project teams in a dialogue-driven process that brings precedent, craft, function, context, and beauty into a unified whole.

Hannah Bacon

Hannah Bacon has a breadth of experience designing residential, mixed-use, and civic projects. Originally from Massachusetts, Hannah studied architecture at the University of Maryland and The University of Texas at Austin.

Cristina Belli
Studio Manager
Cristina Belli is from Managua, Nicaragua. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Modern and Contemporary Art from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Arts in the History of Art and Architecture from Brown University. She worked at the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation before joining Allied Works as the manager of our Brooklyn studio.
John Bohlmeyer

John Bohlmeyer is a native of Missouri. He studied architecture at Virginia Tech and the University of Missouri, and worked with Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos in Berlin before joining Allied Works. He leads the Astoria Woodworkers Collective to cultivate the craft of woodworking in Queens.

Annabella Chen
Architectural Designer
Annabella Chen is a Vancouver native who majored in Linguistics and Environmental Sciences at McGill University before transferring to Cooper Union to study architecture. She worked at NADAAA before joining Allied Works. She works with various project teams on visualization, model making, studies, and new business pursuits.

Leslie Dougrou is a New York native who studied architecture at Cooper Union. Prior to joining Allied Works, she was an architectural designer at WORKac, where she worked on cultural and institutional projects.

Kayci Gallagher
Architectural Designer
Kayci Gallagher is a Wisconsin native who studied at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the Rhode Island School of Design, where she also taught. She worked at Morris Adjmi Architects in New York before joining Allied Works. Her landscape urbanism research was published in The Plan Journal in 2022.

Dan Hawkins
Architectural Designer
Dan Hawkins has diverse skill sets in architecture, building, and research. Prior to joining Allied Works he held positions at Buro Ole Scheeren in Beijing, Gluck+ in New York, Henning Larsen Architects in Copenhagen, and Erdy McHenry Architecture in Philadelphia. He studied at the University of Pennsylvania and The Royal College of Art. At present, Dan is mapping fishing/aquaculture/hydrological activity in and around the Gulf of Maine.

Daniel Hemmendinger

Dan Hemmendinger is a New Jersey native who studied architecture at Virginia Tech and the Harvard Graduate School of Design. Prior to joining Allied Works, Dan was a project manager at Christoff:Finio Architecture, overseeing design and construction on many projects throughout the northeast, including residences in New York and Connecticut and Bennington College's Commons building in Vermont.

Zac Jensen

Zac Jensen works closely with firm leadership on the design of civic, commercial and cultural projects. With special expertise in digital design, Zac leads the firm’s technology and BIM programs. A native of Helena, Montana, and an alumnus of the University of Washington, where he earned his degrees in Architecture, Political Science, and French. He also holds a degree in International Relations from Sciences Po, Paris. Prior to joining Allied Works, Zac worked with Heliotrope and Mithun, where he served as Project Architect on the National Nordic Museum, the Gates Foundation Archives, and numerous residences and restaurants.

Emily Kappes
Senior Associate
Emily Kappes is instrumental to the conceptual design of projects at all scales, from furniture to large work spaces, working closely with architects, consultants, and fabricators to transform ideas into bespoke designs. With special expertise in materials, Emily’s research moves concepts into built form. She studied architecture at the University of Virginia and Harvard Graduate School of Design. As a senior member of the practice, Emily is a team leader and mentor to rising architects.

Jiafeng Li is from Fuzhou, China, and studied at the China Academy of Art and Columbia University. She worked at Dorte Mandrup, Arata Isozaki, and Trace Architecture Office before joining Allied Works.

Selena Linkous is a Senior Associate at Allied Works and brings curiosity and problem-solving skills to her work on the design and documentation of complex cultural, mixed-use, and institutional projects. She received degrees from UNC Charlotte and SCI-Arc, and has gained significant experience designing and executing award-winning projects as a sole practitioner and with Frederick Fisher and Partners, Bestor Architecture, among others. She is a licensed architect and an active participant in the Architecture Foundation of Oregon’s Architecture in Schools program.

Fiona McCallion
Architectural Designer
Fiona McCallion is a designer with expertise working with high-end residential and commercial clients. Prior to joining Allied Works, Fiona worked at Aesop, Marmol Radziner, and Cutler Anderson. A native of Portland, Oregon, Fiona majored in mechanical engineering before switching to study architecture at California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo. She also spent time studying architecture in Japan and Mexico.

Bjorn Nelson

Björn Nelson works closely with the firm's leadership on the design and documentation of complex cultural, civic, and workspace projects. He studied architecture at the University of Oregon and the Universität Stuttgart and environmental studies and human geography at the University of Colorado at Boulder. With a strong background in sustainable design, Björn is a LEED Accredited Professional, trained to become a Phius Certified Consultant, and designed two of Oregon’s first Passive Houses.

Bob Peniel Inapanuri
Architect
Bob Peniel Inapanuri has designed civic and residential projects in France, Spain, South Korea, Japan and the United States and has special skill with building furniture and large-scale mockups. Prior to joining Allied Works, Bob worked at Studio MADe in Hyderabad, India, Studio Mumbai in Mumbai, India, and Patterhn Ives in St. Louis, Missouri. He received his architecture degrees from Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University in India and Washington University in St. Louis.

Sarah Rousey
Associate
Sarah Rousey has a breadth of experience designing arts, civic, corporate and single-family residences. Originally from Dallas, Texas, Sarah studied architecture at the University of Texas at Arlington and the University of Texas at Austin. She is a Design and Branding volunteer with Milk Crate Kitchen, a non-profit organization in Portland dedicated to feeding families in need.
Jeremy Son

Jeremy Son is a Hong Kong native who earned a Bachelor of Architecture from Cooper Union, where he also worked as a teaching assistant. Prior to joining Allied Works, Jeremy worked at NADAAA, where he contributed to the Zhulang Huagai pavilion project in Shenzhen, China.

Maria Stanciu

Maria Stanciu is a Romania native who studied architecture at Cornell University. Before joining Allied Works, Maria was a project architect for Handel Architects in New York where she worked on complex, urban mixed-use high-rise residential projects and multi-use projects worldwide. She also worked at Diller Scofidio + Renfro, and Perkins Eastman.

Riana Tan
Architectural Designer
Riana Tan is a native of the Philippines. She earned architecture degrees from New York University and Cornell University, where she also taught visualization. Before joining Allied Works, she worked at the Brooklyn-based think-tank CAZA and the experimental design and research studio HANNAH. She is an active member of the National Organization of Minority Architects’ Portland chapter and a volunteer for the Architecture Foundation of Oregon.

Paul Tierman

Paul Tierman has a breadth of experience designing for cultural, commercial, and residential clients. Prior to joining Allied Works, Paul worked with SHoP Architects and Morris Adjmi Architects in New York City, where he served as project architect for The Grand Mulberry along with other complex and contextually-driven mixed-use developments. Paul volunteers for various organizations including the National Organization of Minority Architects and the Architectural Foundation of Oregon.

Helen VanLeuven
Studio Assistant
Helen VanLeuven earned a BFA in painting and furniture design from the California College of the Arts. She works in Allied Works’ Portland studio supporting project teams, firm-wide initiatives, new business pursuits, and daily operations.
